Habitat for Humanity of Faulkner County Partners with the Pine Street Community for a Neighborhood Clean-Up Day

Habitat for Humanity of Faulkner County will join forces with the Pine Street Area Community Development Corporation, University of Central Arkansas Students and Staff, local Churches, and Businesses to revitalize certain areas of the Pine Street neighborhood and launch Habitat’s pilot program called “A Brush With Kindness.”  The neighborhood clean-up is scheduled for Saturday morning, March 9, 2013, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and will end at 3:00 p.m.

A Brush with Kindness (“ABWK”) is a new program which complements Habitat’s core mission of making decent, affordable housing available to low-income families.  This program allows Habitat to serve a different population; it helps homeowners repair and maintain the exterior upkeep of their home through services such as painting, minor repairs, landscaping, and yard clean-up; it helps preserve the affordable housing stock; and it is designed to encourage connections within the community.

The Neighborhood Clean-Up Day plan calls for all volunteers to meet at the corner of Pine and Hamilton at 8:45 a.m. The volunteers will then disburse to do clean-up work in the Spruce, Pine, and Walnut Street areas on the homes of the community residents that agreed to work with Habitat on this special project. Bags, gloves, and bottled water will be provided.  However, donations and additional supplies are welcome and appreciated.

Habitat for Humanity of Faulkner County is an ecumenical ministry that welcomes all people dedicated to the cause of eliminating poverty housing. Through volunteer labor, tax deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds new homes, rehabs and repairs homes and provides educational workshops.  Since its inception in 1997, the Faulkner County affiliate has built more than 20 houses and continue to provide simple, decent and affordable homes with families in need.
